Rope Access for the Professional Rescuer

Rope access techniques for work at height are gaining in both acceptance and popularity across North America, due in large part to the hard work of organizations like the Society of Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT) to standardize techniques and safe practices. In nearly every industry that has workers at height, rope access is being used as a faster, more inexpensive method of work than the use of cranes and scaffolding.

This course is designed first familiarize the rescue professional with basic rope access skills, and then employ them when conducting professional rescue of those who work at height. Many professional high angle rescue methods already employ a two rope (Main and Belay) system. This course will give the professional rescuer an opportunity to transition their knowledge of this two rope system into the arena of rope access style rescue.

Rope access-based high angle rescue techniques are invaluable in situations involving a worker in need of rescue who is hanging suspended in a location that prohibits more “traditional” means of access (indoor stage rigging venues, wind turbines, telecommunications towers, water tanks, high rise buildings).
This course features classroom presentations covering topics like Suspension Intolerance and specialized gear used for rope access work and rescue. The field sessions will cover rope access techniques for raising, lowering, controlled descent, anchor selection, knots and rigging. Special emphasis is placed on access and rescue techniques.

All participants in the course will, upon successful completion of an evaluation by an independent SPRAT Evaluator, be certified to a SPRAT Level One.

The certification for this course is good for two years. All participants who take the course will receive a Certificate of Completion and a photo ID Card.
